Roye Rushing

I started taking music lessons at about the same time I started school. I took piano lessons then, at about the age of nine mom bought me some drum sticks. Soon after that, in order to save what was left of the furniture, mom got my brothers and me a set of toy drums for Christmas. These didn't last the day. The following Christmas I got my first set of real drums.

From sixth grade through high school I played in various stage, symphonic, and orchestral bands. I was also involved with various garage rock bands.

After high school I attendeded Berkley School of Music studying music theory and performance. After that I enrolled at Southwest Texas State University continuing my study of music. I played in the stage and marching bands. I was also involved with various local bands playing rock, pop and blues.

Since college I have played in more bands; rock, country, surf, big band, blues, than I care to count.

As well as Texas Terraplanes my music interests include teaching bass guitar and percussion. I know that teachers are not supposed to have favorites, but I confess to one, my eleven year old son, who, like his old man is a percussionist, It is difficult to tell who is teaching and who is learning, when my son shows me a new technique. He keeps me on my toes!
